The Miami Dolphins will be without star cornerback Jalen Ramsey for at least the first half of the season. Ramsey reportedly tore his meniscus and underwent surgery that will sideline him through at least December, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.
Ramsey originally injured himself on what’s been described as “a freak play” in the opening days of training camp.
As Rapoport also noted, the Dolphins, as part of the trade, received fully guaranteed salaries in 2023 and 2024. The security allowed Ramsey to “make the best decision for his health without fearing financial consequences. That’s why players and agents fight for it.”
Ramsey reportedly spoke to the team on Thursday and will help “inspire and lead, despite not being on the field,” according to Rapoport.
Ramsey played collegiately at Florida State. He entered the league in the 2016 NFL Draft when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him with the fifth overall pick in the first round. The Jaguars then traded Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams early in the 2019 season. The Rams traded Ramsey to the Dolphins earlier this year in exchange for a third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long.
The NFL world was quick to react to the brutal news:
