The Miami Dolphins have had perhaps the most prolific offense in the entire league this season, and that’s pretty surprising when you consider that they have been forced to play a lot of backups on the offensive line this season.
According to Chris Kouffman of 3 Yards Per Carry, nearly half of the Dolphins snaps on the offensive line this season have been played by backup offensive linemen.
“Backups account for 47% of Miami’s OL snaps. Winning teams average 16%. No other winning team more than 27%. Bills only had 4% of OL snaps taken by backups,” Kouffman said in a post on X.
“I once said Miami’s OL was the exhaust port in the Death Star. I was wrong. Dolphins leads the NFL in offense anyway. I doubt any QB other than Tua could pilot this offense and get what he’s getting out of it. Credit to OL Coach Butch Barry as well for getting these guys ready to be next man up,” Kouffman continued. “I’m not going to say it doesn’t suck, or it isn’t hurting the offense. Of course it is. But leading the NFL in scoring and yardage means they’re clearly overcoming.”
It’s pretty insane news that the Dolphins have been so dominant on the offensive side of the ball with a lot of backups on the offensive line, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.
Butch Barry needs a 10 year deal I want Mike McDaniel and him attached at the hip for the duration of his tenure! https://t.co/sei04Xg82A

But let’s fire McDaniel and get rid of Tua. Make it make sense. Takes like that from some “fins fans” are straight laughable. https://t.co/ntuf0E9Kb1

This is a wild stat. Even wilder that the Dolphins still have the No. 1 offense in the league with so many offensive line issues. https://t.co/yVaGb8gRYS

Absurd stat. Butch Barry has been putting in work getting these dudes ready to play every week. https://t.co/wd1xbGZKrn

We’ll certainly have to see just how far this offensive line can carry the Dolphins into the postseason.
