So far, former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia has yet to be hired for a defensive coordinator position in the NFL, but it looks like he might be getting a chance as a position coach.
According to a report from New England Patriots beat writer Karen Guregian of the Boston Globe, Matt Patricia could be hired by the Philadelphia Eagles as the team’s new linebackers coach.
“I’m hearing that Matt Patricia has a shot to land with the Philadelphia Eagles on the defensive staff, presumably as a linebackers coach,” Guregian said in a Tweet on Sunday afternoon.
If it happens, it would obviously be a big move for both the Eagles and Patricia. As a result, the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter, with some pointing out that this would mean a reunion for Patricia and Eagles defensive back Darius Slay, who recently blasted his former head coach.
If this happens, Eagles will need to move the linebackers room a long way from Slay and the DBs… https://t.co/TIiglZyvyd

I have a hard time believing Slay and Patricia can co-exist being in the same building. Would be shocked if this happens. https://t.co/76LoqT1d0D

Patricia served as the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018 to 2020. Since then, he has been on the New England Patriots coaching staff under head coach Bill Belichick, serving as a senior football advisor and working with the offense.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Eagles ultimately make the move.
