When the New England Patriots take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon, it looks like they’ll be doing it with Brian Hoyer at quarterback instead of regular starter Mac Jones.
According to NFL reporter Albert Breer of The MMQB, Jones will miss Saturday’s game with an ankle injury and Hoyer will start in his place.
“Patriots have ruled QB Mac Jones (ankle) out for Sunday’s game at Lambeau. Brian Hoyer will start for New England,” Breer said in a Tweet.
Jones suffered the ankle injury during the team’s 37-26 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Earlier this week, it was reported that Jones suffered had suffered a “severe high ankle sprain” and would miss “multiple games.” Though the injury reportedly would “cause many to have surgery,” Jones was still telling his teammates not to rule him out of Sunday’s game. But despite Jones’ optimism, he will in fact miss this week’s game.
With Jones now officially ruled out of Sunday’s game, Hoyer will now take over as the team’s starter. Hoyer has started 39 games throughout his 13-year NFL career, appearing in 75 games in total. He has a 16-23 record as a starter, but an 0-1 record as a starter with the Patriots.
