The Carolina Panthers traded two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants on Monday. At least one man is not happy with Carolina’s return — country star Luke Combs.
Burns was traded for two draft picks, a 2024 second-rounder and a 2025 fifth. Combs, seeing that return and remembering what the Panthers got (or more to the point, didn’t get) when they traded Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, voiced his frustration.
“@Panthers WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!?,” a frustrated Combs tweeted. “No first round pick for McCaffrey a few years back and now none for Burns?!?! Are we just fire bombing the whole team here or what? I usually don’t comment on these kinds of things but it’s just becoming slow torture at this point.”
Indeed, McCaffrey was traded for a second, third and fourth-round pick in 2023 and a fifth-rounder in 2024.
Some fans were not surprised to see Combs’ reaction, noting that is song, “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” specifically says “Longneck, ice cold beer never broke my heart Like diamond rings and football teams Have torn this boy apart.”
But the majority of the commentary seemed to support Combs’ frustration.
For the sake of both Combs and the Panthers, hopefully they can regain his trust and quickly. Otherwise his love for the team may be Going, Going, Gone.
