The Los Angeles Rams are looking to make one last Super Bowl run before star quarterback Matthew Stafford calls it a career and walks away from the sport. Unfortunately, Stafford has yet to take the field for football activities in training camp, as he deals with a lingering back issue.
Now, more details are emerging about Stafford’s back, and things may be more bleak than most people anticipated, according to one prominent league insider.
“Sources: #Rams QB Matthew Stafford is dealing with an aggravated disc and has received an epidural to help him deal with it. Los Angeles has called him week-to-week, being cautious, but with plans for him to be ready for Week 1,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This makes Puka and Adams a little scary for fantasy. Doesn’t sound great for Stafford,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Can’t be worth risking a lifetime of even more back pain. Take the super bowl and walk Matt. You’ve given more than enough,” another fan added.
“An aggravated disc and an epidural shot isn’t game-ready prep—it’s a red warning flag. Rams are walking a tightrope,” someone else added.
Hopefully, Stafford can get healthy and this isn’t the way his storied career ends.
