The Detroit Lions had the most successful regular season in team history last year, not only winning the NFC North but securing the number one overall seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history.

Quarterback Jared Goff was at the helm of the offense last season, despite the team drafting quarterback Hendon Hooker in the 2024 draft.

However, despite Hooker’s involvement in such a successful team as a backup, the Lions have decided he isn’t what they’re looking for in a backup quarterback this year, according to one prominent league insider.

The #Lions have waived QB Hendon Hooker. The former 3rd-round pick out of Tennessee will get a change of scenery, as (Jordan Schultz) reported,” Ari Meirov posted on Twitter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Not really a surprise since Dan Campbell yesterday almost accidentally slipped and said We wish him well. Sad but probably had to happen,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Josh Heupel can coach up a very explosive college offense and is good at helping guys be productive in college. His scheme does not prepare guys for the pros. QBs and WRs both. Good college coach, but not ideal if you want to be a productive NFL offensive player,” someone else added.

“Hate to see it, but it was bound to happen. Poor guy just looked worse and worse every time he suited up,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see where Hooker goes from here.
