Lions running back D’Andre Swift waves at fans as he walks off the field after the Lions’ 37-30 win over the Packers on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Ford Field.

Former Georgia star D’Andre Swift has been an extremely promising player since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, he revealed some goals that the Detroit Lions RB has set for himself that indicate he plans to become a superstar this season.

According to Lions beat writer Tim Twentyman, Swift said that his goal this season is to rush for 1,000 yards as well as 1,000 receiving yards.

In his statement, he credited running backs coach Duce Staley and said that with his help, he can accomplish this goal.

This is an extremely lofty goal for Swift considering only 70 players have ever broken 2,000 scrimmage yards in a season in the history of the NFL. That becomes even more of a rarified group of players if you go strictly by Swift’s goal of 1,000 in both receiving and rushing yards, with only Marshall Faulk, Christian McCaffrey, and Roger Craig accomplishing that feat.

Up to this point, the most yards from scrimmage that Swift has ever accomplished in his career was last season when he totaled 1,069 yards. He would need to nearly double that number to reach 2,000 total yards. However, he is certainly an extremely talented player and can vastly improve on his numbers from last year.

Detroit could certainly use that kind of season from Swift as they attempt to improve from their 3-13-1 season last year.

Swift is certainly poised to have a very good year next season, but his goals seem like a bit of an extreme expectation for himself.
