The NFL world was shocked last week when it was announced that the Green Bay Packers would be trading star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Adams had been with the team for his entire eight-year career, earning five straight Pro-Bowl appearances serving as Aaron Rodgers’ top receiving option.
Rodgers hasn’t been shy to praise Adams in the past for playing a massive part in his success over the years, calling him the best receiver that he has ever played with.
Adams took part in the introductory press conference for the Raiders on Tuesday, where he spoke on his time with the Packers and Rodgers.
“It was really an idea up until it was done,” Adams said, as per Green Bay’s WBay Action 2 News. “Me playing in Green Bay, a great situation, having the greatest quarterback to play the game, that’s a dream in itself.”
“I’ll never take away anything from what Green Bay gave me, what Aaron gave me. It was an amazing opportunity to work over there and do what I did for almost a decade. Things change sometimes.”
It always seemed that Rodgers was the team’s first priority to re-sign this offseason. While that makes sense, it seems like this bothered Adams and made him feel that the team didn’t prioritize a long-term contract with him.
Even though the Packers eventually offered Adams a contract even larger than Las Vegas did, the bridge was already burnt when they decided to franchise tag the star receiver.
Now Adams will join Derek Carr, his former teammate at Fresno State. But he’s also now in what looks to be an extremely stacked AFC West division.
Rodgers will surely miss Adams and his reliability as one of the best receivers in football, and the Packers will certainly need to focus on replacing his level of production this offseason.
