A return to the New York Giants is working out well for Landon Collins. Collins was chosen by that team in the second round (33rd overall) in 2015 and played for them through 2018 before leaving as a free agent for Washington ahead of the 2019 season. After Washington cut him this past offseason following injuries, though, Collins signed with the Giants’ practice squad in October, and played in four games heading into Sunday’s clash with the Indianapolis Colts, earning a full addition to the active roster in December. And he made a massive impact Sunday, jumping a route, intercepting a Nick Foles pass, and taking it back 52 yards for a touchdown:
As seen in that clip, that came after CBS play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan noted Collins being on the field in a DB-heavy package and pointed out his alignment in the slot. And as analyst Trent Green notes there, this is partly about a bad throw from Foles. But Collins still made a remarkable play to step up, grab this, and take it to the house. That was the Giants’ first touchdown off an interception this season:
Collins was excellent for the Giants in his first stint with the team, making the Pro Bowl every year from 2016 to 2018 and earning a first-team All-Pro selection in 2016. His time with Washington was rougher, thanks partly to injuries. But he’s still just 28, and he’s proven to be an important piece for the Giants when called upon, including with this play.
