The Baltimore Ravens made its decision on star quarterback Lamar Jackson and that decision has drawn significant reaction from the NFL world.

The Ravens announced they would use the non-exclusive franchise tag on the star quarterback. Jackson, 26, enters an unprecedented time as one of the league’s best and brightest may not get a second contract from the team who drafted him. Jackson won the NFL MVP award in 2019 and has progressed as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. But evidently, all that’s led to is the two sides being significantly apart in negotiations.

Reactions to the news have started to pour in.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport was among the first to wonder if some team would step up.

Writer Murjani Rawls speculated that the news would cause the New York Jets to turn around! The Jets are reportedly actively pursuing star QB Aaron Rodgers.

Mike Tanier called the tag the “NON-exclusive, solve-our-problem-for-us tag.” Being that Jackson can negotiate with other teams, it’s probable that those negotiations will help set the market for Baltimore. They’ll then have a choice to make.

And Geoff Schwartz lastly wondered if, since the Cleveland Browns gave Deshaun Watson “all that guaranteed money,” did they just cost the Ravens their guy?

Whatever the case, this figures to be one of the most impactful free agency periods in the NFL in a long time.
