The Washington Commanders made a splashy move on Sunday, hiring former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator. One of their most famous fans seems to be on board with the move.
Shortly after the Kingsbury hire was reported, Durant took to Twitter/X welcome Kingsbury and wonder what the next move might be.
“Welcome Kliff,” Durant tweeted. “Who’s next????? #HTTC”
“Who’s next?” really is an intriguing question with this move.
The Cardinals fired Kingsbury after the 2022 season. And while he was out of the NFL in 2023, he wasn’t out of football. Kingsbury spent the season working on Lincoln Riley’s staff at USC, serving as a Senior Offensive Analyst. USC’s quarterback in 2023 was Caleb Williams, the likely No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Commanders are picking second overall in the draft and potentially have what it would take to move up to No. 1 in a trade with the Chicago Bears.
Washington moved slowly in its head coaching search, becoming the final team to fill that role in the offseason. The hire of Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn. And while Quinn’s hiring was not met with much enthusiasm in Washington, what’s happened since has been a different story.
If nothing else, we can understand why Durant and fellow Commanders fans are excited.
