During this week’s 27-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears star quarterback Justin Fields didn’t necessarily have the best performance. And it sounds like he thinks the coaching is at least partially to blame for those struggles.
Justin Fields finished the game on Sunday just 16-of-29 through the air for 211 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions, and he had just four rushes for three yards – his lowest rushing total since his rookie season.
After explaining that he felt “robotic” and was overthinking things on the field, Fields was then asked what was causing him to have to think so much on the field. And the Bears’ quarterback definitely raised some eyebrows with his pretty blunt response in which he appeared to throw the coaches under the bus.
“You know, could be coaching, I think,” Fields said during the press conference.
Fields explains that when the Bears take on the Kansas City Chiefs this week, he wants to play “free” and “go out there and be me.”
“My goal this week is to say, ‘F it — just play football,’” Fields said according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “That’s when I play my best, when I’m out there being free. I’m going to go out there and be me.”
We’ll have to see if Fields thinks the coaching staff’s game plan allows him to do it.
