There wasn’t much question that Deshaun Watson would be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns this year, but there was a little more drama surrounding the backup quarterback position, especially after the emergence of rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson. But head coach Kevin Stefanski answered those questions this week.

During a recent press conference, Kevin Stefanski made it clear that Joshua Dobbs will be the team’s backup quarterback behind Deshaun Watson, and it doesn’t sound like the competition was actually that close between Dobbs and Thompson-Robinson.

“I think, obviously, we’re excited about that entire room,” Stefanski said. “Just speaking to DTR, he’s coming along. He’s making great strides. We’re excited about his future. And just the focus for him and all our guys is to continue to work. Going into Week One, you look at your depth chart and you just want guys to continue to grow and get better because as you all know, there’s times that guys are unavailable due to injury or otherwise So, it is a constant striving to get better.”

The announcement led to quite a few reactions on social media.

Browns fans undoubtedly hope that the team never has to resort to their backup quarterbacks, but that’s how the depth chart is going to shake out this year.
