The New Orleans Saints had a pretty disappointing season under Dennis Allen, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive time, and it sounds like the team is considering a pretty controversial hire to help improve the coaching staff over the offseason: Jon Gruden.
According to a report from Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com, the New Orleans Saints are considering hiring Jon Gruden onto their coaching staff and have already met with him about the potential opportunity.
“The Saints are expected to make changes to their coaching staff in the wake of their disappointing 2023 season, and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden is being considered as a possible addition, sources said Monday,” Duncan reported on Monday evening.
“Gruden, a Super Bowl-winning coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recently visited with Saints officials during the team’s Week 17 road trip to Tampa, Florida, where Gruden has a home. He attended a team meeting the night before the Saints’ game against the Buccaneers and dined with staff, including Loomis, at a local restaurant later that evening, sources said.”
Obviously, this would be a pretty controversial and shocking move as Gruden resigned as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders under pressure two years ago after leaked emails revealed racist comments. Complicating matters further, he’s currently in the midst of a lawsuit against the league.
All in all, it’s a pretty shocking turn of events and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media.

The cultural change Dennis Allen wants to bring to the @Saints is racism and homophobia https://t.co/sT3921Lpf9

We’ll certainly have to see whether or not the Saints actually make the move.
