After losing his rookie season to a knee injury in the preseason, Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is finally ready to take the field in his second season as a professional. The Vikings held a joint practice with the New England Patriots on Thursday, and the reports indicate that the young Vikings quarterback was absolutely dialed in.
“J.J. McCarthy and the Vikings top offense carved up the #Patriots defense late in a red zone period. Carlton Davis, Marcus Jones and Craig Woodson (2) allowed TDs. Davis seemed to get flagged for a hold on his TD. The last TD led to a scuffle between Pats DL and Vikings OL,” Patriots reporter Andrew Callahan posted on Twitter.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed the reports after the practice.
“It felt decisive. Incredible amount of conviction to some of the decisions he made, location of the football,” the head coach said of McCarthy.
Fans reacted to McCarthy’s strong showing on social media.
“McCarthy looking poised, and ready to take the Helm leading this Vikings team to a Super Bowl; SKOL!” one Vikings fan wrote on Twitter.
“Yup he’s our savior,” another fan added.
“Getting more comfortable. KOC is so good at doing that for his QBs,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if McCarthy’s success translates to the regular season.
