As Jim Schwartz was formally introduced as the Cleveland Browns’ new defensive coordinator on Wednesday, it didn’t take long for the former Detroit Lions head coach to make a bold claim about his new team and city.
After having been the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator from 2016-20, Schwartz most recently served as a defensive assistant with the Tennessee Titans for the past two seasons. During Schwartz’s last go-round as a coordinator, it was his defense that helped the Eagles secure a 41-33 Super Bowl LII win over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. A strip sack by Brandon Graham ended any hope of a Patriots comeback.
So, not only does Schwartz no a thing or two about coordinating a Super Bowl-winning defense, but he also knows a few things about Super Bowl parades.
“There’s only one place that would outdo that parade in Philadelphia and we’re here right now,” Schwartz said Wednesday via Cleveland.com’s Hayden Grove.
While Schwartz might’ve ruffled a few feathers with Philadelphia sports fans, it’s clear that he holds a similar level of passion as the Browns fanbase when it comes to bringing a Super Bowl back to Cleveland. After all, Schwartz was once upon a time, a personal scout for the Browns from 1993-95.
