As the New York Jets continue searching for a veteran quarterback following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury, a new name has reportedly emerged.
According to the Reading (Pa.) Eagle per Ross Tucker, the Jets reached out to former NFL quarterback Chad Henne about joining the team recently, and Henne declined.
Henne, who announced his retirement after winning Super Bowl LVII with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year, said, “I hung them up for the right reasons. I didn’t want to go back and put my body into it.”
Henne started with the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars for most of his career but signed with the Chiefs prior to the 2018 season and spent the remainder of his career backing up Patrick Mahomes, winning two Super Bowls along the way.
He played a vital role in the 2022 postseason for the Chiefs, as he led Kansas City on a 98-yard scoring drive in the Divisional Round against the Jaguars after Mahomes went down with an ankle injury. Henne’s drive chewed up the clock and helped Kansas City go into the half with a 17-10 lead. Mahomes would return after the break and Kansas City held on for the victory.
In his career, Henne threw for 13,290 yards and 60 touchdowns to 63 interceptions. It’s unclear if the Jets’ interest was for Henne to replace Zach Wilson as starter or to be Wilson’s backup.
