Rumors have been circulating all day about what quarterback the New York Jets may sign after the injury to starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers as many know by now, injured himself in the fourth play of the Jets opening drive Monday night against the Buffalo Bills. He will miss the entire 2023 NFL season with a torn Achilles, a stinging blow to the Jets, who may well have been Super Bowl contenders with Rodgers aboard.
The questions began soon afterward as to who the team would go after. Everyone from Tom Brady to Matt Ryan’s name has been mentioned as possible replacements.
But a new name has emerged in the Jets sweepstakes- former Kansas City Chiefs backup QB Chad Henne. Jordan Schultz reported that the Jets inquired on the former Michigan quarterback, who won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs in his time there.
Henne spent his career in Kansas City backing up superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, Henne retired after a 14-year NFL career. Well, now it seems the Jets are interested in signing him because of his relationship with Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Hackett and Henne worked together while the pair were with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
When Mahomes was injured in the Divisional Playoffs against the Jaguars this past season, he led the team on a 98-yard touchdown drive. That may also explain why the Jets may be inquiring about his services.
The only problem is that Henne is 38, which is just a year younger than Rodgers, and may not be in football shape after all these months.
