This week, the Dallas Cowboys were dealt a major blow when star cornerback Trevon Diggs went down with a torn ACL during practice – an injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season. And during an interview this week, Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones made it clear just how big of a loss this is for the team.
During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan this week, Jerry Jones had some pretty blunt comments about just what Diggs means to the team.
“No one has the impact he has,” Jones said on his radio show appearance, according to Pro Football Talk. “The facts are that we do have depth. We don’t have depth with somebody with his unique abilities, but we’ve got depth relative to playing the position.”
Jones was then asked about the possibility of bringing a player in from outside the Cowboys organization to help replace Diggs, and Jones didn’t seem to think that was much of a possibility given Diggs’ unique skillset.
“You can’t do that,” Jones said. “That’s just not real. That’s like saying that ‘I want to be Tom Cruise.’ You don’t replace these irreplaceable players.”
It’s clear just how much the Cowboys respect Diggs and just how much of a loss this is to the team this season. We’ll have to see how the team fares without him.
