Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis knows a thing or two about running the ball, and he isn’t necessarily happy with what he’s seen from his former team in that regard so far this season.
During a recent interview with Fox News, Jerome Bettis made it clear that what he’s seen from the Pittsburgh Steelers rushing attack this year is “still not good enough.”
“Obviously, they had a much better performance, but it’s still not good enough offensively from a running game perspective,” Bettis told Fox News. Here’s a team that has been based on running the football. They’ve got to get that physical mentality, on the offensive line, that they can go out there and dominate at the line of scrimmage. And I think that’s something that they’re working on that they still need to develop a little bit more.”
But despite the challenges, Bettis still sees this as a talented team that he thinks could contend in the postseason.
“I think offensively, they’ve come a long way, but they still have a long way to go. And I think it starts with Kenny Pickett, the quarterback. I think he has a chance to be an exceptional quarterback in the NFL, but he still has to develop and still has to learn how to play quarterback in the NFL. And it’s a process like anything else, but I think he’s up to the task. This is a really good football team and the defense is sensational. So I think they’ve got a really good chance to make it to the playoffs and be dangerous.”
We’ll have to see how the running game develops as the season goes on.
