There has been a flurry of activity on Tuesday before the 2022 NFL trade deadline, with the Miami Dolphins being one of the biggest acquirers. Along with their addition of former Broncos linebacker Bradley Chubb, Miami has also completed a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for running back Jeff Wilson, per reports.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news, saying that the Niners are sending Wilson to the Fins for a 2023 fifth-round draft pick.
The move means a reunion for Wilson and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who was previously the offensive coordinator for San Francisco.
Wilson garnered 486 yards and two touchdowns in eight games for San Francisco this season. However, he became expendable after the team traded for Christian McCaffrey, who will take on most of their carries moving forward. The Niners are also expecting Elijah Mitchell to return from injury soon.
In Miami, Wilson joins fellow former Niner Raheem Mostert in the backfield. He fits well with McDaniel’s scheme and already knows it well. The expectation is that the duo will split time and provide more opportunities to help take some pressure off quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
In the meantime, the NFL world has some strong reactions to the trade news.
