With Detroit Lions star running back D’Andre Swift injured for much of this season, Jamaal Williams became the primary running back for the team this year. It’s safe to say he delivered. And it sounds like he has no plans to leave Detroit.
During the season, Jamaal Williams set a new franchise record with 17 rushing touchdowns while finishing the season with a career-high 1,066 yards on 262 carries, making him the first Lions back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in nearly a decade. And it sure sounds like he wants to be with the team next season.
“I really just want to stay with Detroit, if I can,” Williams said according to the Detroit Lions team website. “Really just stay here and make my mark here. I really want to finish here if I could. I understand it’s a business and the team has to do what’s best for them and I have to do what’s best for me, too, but I just really want us to come to a mutual agreement and just get it done and just get back to playing football.”
We’ll have to see if the teams can work out a deal, but it sure sounds like there is mutual interest.
