Jakobi Meyers put up career-high numbers last season. He’s hoping that will be enough for the New England Patriots to lock him in long-term. But in the meantime, he earned himself a one-year tender offer.
Meyers signed his second-round, $3.986 million tender as he continues to negotiate for a long-term deal with the franchise.
Meyers led the Patriots with 83 receptions and 866 yards while also notching two interceptions as rookie quarterback Mac Jones got his feet under him. The hope would be that the tandem can garner even bigger stats this season, which would likely mean a bigger deal would be in order for the 25-year-old out of NC State.
The fourth-year receiver has been growing his stats every season in the league as he finished 2020 with 729 receiving yards off 59 receptions. A 1,000-yard season in 2022 isn’t out of the question, assuming that Jones can improve as a passer.
The news that the Patriots locked in their top receiver for the upcoming season was met with mostly positive reactions around the NFL world.
Meyer previously told the Boston Herald that he wants to stay in New England for the foreseeable future.
“Who wouldn’t, honestly?” Meyers told the Boston Herald. “It’s a great place to be. The guys in the locker room — I’ve learned more about being a man just from them than probably my whole life. It’s just been great to be around those guys. It’s a great city to be in. I’m happy here.”
