No NFL team has played in London, England more often than the Jacksonville Jaguars over the years, and this year will be no exception, with the Jags slated to play two games across the pond. And as Commissioner Roger Goodell moves toward potentially expanding the league to include European teams, one NFL expert speculates that the Jaguars could be moving to London eventually.
As NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, there’s a very strong chance that the Jaguars ultimately move to London if the league decides to expand overseas.
“I know, Jaguars fans. You don’t want to hear it. I wouldn’t want to hear it, either. Folks in St. Louis didn’t want to hear it when the handwriting of an inevitable L.A. move was spray painted on the wall,” Florio wrote. “In this case, it’s not spray paint. It’s an etching in stone. The Jaguars play in London, year after year after year. If any team has a fan base in London, it’s the Jaguars. This year, they’ll play there twice.”
Florio points out that if any current NFL franchise is going to move over to Europe, the Jacksonville Jaguars are clearly the team that makes sense.
“If any team goes for good, and unless the teams would all be expansion franchises, who else would it be? The Jaguars are the logical choice to relocate,” Florio wrote.
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens to the franchise in the coming years.
