Top prospect guarantees record-breaking NFL Combine performance

Last year, former Texas wide receiver and current Kansas City Chiefs star Xavier Worthy stole the show at the NFL Combine, breaking the record for the fastest-recorded 40-yard dash time in the history of the event. And this year, a fellow Texas wide receiver vowed to break Worthy’s record this weekend.

Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond joined the program this past season after spending the first two years of his career at Alabama.

On the field, he didn’t have the kind of production that some expected of him, hauling in 34 receptions for 540 yards and five touchdowns. But he did show off some blazing speed during his time at Texas that should certainly garner some interest amongst NFL teams ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Bond is well aware of Worthy’s record-breaking performance at the combine last season. In fact, he publically declared in a conversation with reporters from the combine on Friday that he will be breaking Worthy’s record when he performs on Saturday.

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond said Friday via ESPN’s Todd Archer. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”

According to Bond himself, the fastest he has run leading up to the combine is 4.23, which is 0.02 seconds slower than Worthy’s time last year.

Regardless, Bond plans on rising to the occasion, further outlining how he has always been one of the fastest players on the field at every level he has ever played.

“I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond added. “I’ve been one of the fastest my whole life, so I’m going to go out there, and when practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. So I’m just going to trust my training and put on a show.”

We will soon find out whether Bond can live up to his belief in himself. But either way, it should be one heck of a showing from Bond given the athleticism that has shown on tape throughout his collegiate career.
