The New York Giants have not given their fans too much to get excited about in recent years. So in a way, their announced giveaway during fan appreciation night feels very apt.
The NFL team has had one winning season in the last nine years and hasn’t won more than six games in the last four seasons and doesn’t seem too likely this year either. Daniel Jones isn’t the Eli Manning replacement that they’d hoped for and Saquon Barkley has been hampered by the injuries that everyone worried about when the team drafted him in the first round. And by all signs, the team loves head coach Joe Judge for reasons that remain unclear to fans.
With nothing left to play for other than draft position, Giants fans would love some kind of sign that the franchise cares about keeping them happy. Technically, they do, offering them a freebie on Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday. As for what that freebie is, Giants season ticket holders will get to enjoy watching their team probably lose to the Dallas Cowboys with a free medium Pepsi drink.
Not a large. A medium.
Maybe the Giants just want to make sure their fans are hydrated and are realistic that they aren’t going to drink water during a football game? Hey, we’re just looking for silver linings here.
As you might imagine, there was a noticeable reaction to the news on social media in NFL circles.
In the good old days, @MikeFrancesa would have been ripping this to shreds at this very moment https://t.co/DaJ20Yd9Ur

A free medium soda. What a glorious giveaway.
I bet the carbonation's flat on it. https://t.co/dMEucsOpXY

We look forward to seeing everyone showing their hard-earned medium sodas on social media on Sunday during the game. Congrats to Giants fans on their big W this season.
