The New York Jets haven’t beaten the New England Patriots since Week 16 of the 2015 NFL season, losing 14 consecutive games to their division rivals. But this week, it sounds like New York Jets superstar wide receiver Garrett Wilson wants to change that.
The Jets take on the Patriots on Sunday afternoon, and during an interview on ESPN Radio this week, Garrett Wilson made it clear that he thinks it’s time for New York to snap the losing streak, calling it “unacceptable.”
“It’s time that things change around here,” Wilson said according to Pro Football Talk. “14 straight is unacceptable.”
More than that, Wilson thinks that breaking the streak and turning the tide for the New York Jets franchise is why he was brought to the team in the first place.
“I inherited — I walked into a team that, we haven’t beaten the Patriots,” Wilson said. “I feel like that’s why they brought me here, brought me and Sauce [Gardner] here and the guys here — to make things like that change. It’s time we do what we get paid for.”
Heading into the season, Wilson thought he would be playing this game with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. But after Rodgers’ injury, he’ll have to be catching passes from Zach Wilson once again.
We’ll have to see if he’ll be able to break the streak.
