It was a good news, bad news situation for any New York Giants or Washington Commanders who hoped to take a shower after their game on Sunday afternoon.
The good news was that the showers were operational. The bad news? There was no hot water at FedEx Field.
Seriously.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited a team official for the Commanders, who explained the issue and why it couldn’t be fixed during the game.
“We had an equipment failure in the main water heater that provides hot water to the field level locker rooms,” the Commanders spokesman said, per Schefter on Twitter/X. “We can’t resolve the matter without completely shutting off the water to the stadium, which is why it couldn’t be repaired in game.”
The conditions at FedEx Field felt like a weekly punchline during Daniel Snyder’s time owning the Commanders. In fact,
this is not FedEx Field’s first, or even worst, water issue. In 2021, fans at FedEx Field had to deal with buckets of sewage spilling.
Given the stadium’s history, the NFL world had no shortage of jokes about the shower debacle.

We can only hope that the players made do with the cold showers. This is especially true for the visiting Giants. And if they didn’t, that’s going to be a long trip back home.
