The Detroit Lions may want to beef up security at minicamps this week after a man somehow broke in to patrol the sidelines. Rather than blend in with his surroundings so as to not draw attention to himself, this fan seemed to be on a mission to lob insults at players and media once making his way into the minicamp.
One Lion that seemed to take the brunt of the verbal onslaught before security cracked down was Lions linebacker Tahir Whitehead, according to MLive.com.
The man specifically targeted linebacker Tahir Whitehead, shouting, “Yo No. 59, I know you need me at linebacker.” He also yelled that he had played football since 1987, and that he had created the game.
He also repeatedly shouted racial epithets at a reporter who was trying to capture his outburst.
An unlocked gate appears to be to blame in this situation, which seems like an unfortunate oversight. In today’s world, you really cannot be too safe about such things. Fortunately, this fool was only interested in attacking the egos of players and reporters and not pursuing any physical assaults or worse.
We’re just guessing whoever is the last to leave the Lions training facility last will be tasked with double-checking all of the locks.
