Atlanta Falcons fans weren’t thrilled when the team passed up drafting Justin Fields in 2021. With the dominos stacked up the way they are, the team might have a chance at another elite quarterback prospect this year. The team appears to know that and is doing its due diligence.
Atlanta will host former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud on a pre-Draft visit.
“The #Falcons are hosting QB C.J. Stroud on a visit today, sources say,” NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo tweeted. “Atlanta currently holds the eighth pick and has met with other top QBs in this draft after doing homework on QBs this time last year as well.”
Stroud and the Falcons make a lot of sense as a pair. Atlanta has quietly had a strong offseason, all things considered. They signed former Pro Bowler Jessie Bates on top of a few other moves, like re-signing right tackle Kaleb McGary.
Landing Stroud would excite the Falcon fanbase a good amount. The team is in desperate need of a jolt after the last few lackluster seasons.
Atlanta hasn’t picked a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft since 2008. The Falcons selected Matt Ryan third overall that year. Ryan would deliver on the pick, bringing the team to the NFL Playoffs six times. There was also that ill-fated trip to the Super Bowl, as you may remember.
The NFL world reacted to the news.
