Former Seattle Seahawks star Earl Thomas III is in the news for some unfortunate reasons this week as he appears to have been the victim of a $1.9 million identity theft scheme run by his ex-wife’s boyfriend.
38-year-old Kevin J. Thompson was arrested in June on charges of identity theft, forgery, money laundering, credit card fraud, computer fraud, and bank fraud after he stole the identity of Earl Thomas III in an attempt to steal money from his bank accounts, cash his NFL checks and transfer ownership of several vehicles, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators told Nola.com.
“[Thompson] used a driver’s license with his photo but the NFL player’s information to create a phony bank account and transfer vehicle titles, authorities said, including the blue Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV he drove to the bank where he was arrested,” Nola.com reported.
Making the story even more interesting, Thompson is currently in a relationship with Nina Thomas, the ex-wife of Earl Thomas. Nola.com describes the separation between Earl Thomas and Nina Thomas as “tumultuous,” recalling that Nina Thomas was accused of holding him at gunpoint after catching him with another woman.
Thompson is currently free on a $730,000 bond. His attorney declined an opportunity from Nola.com to comment.
