Whether you want to call it the “Tush Push” or “Brotherly Shove,” it’s a play that has gained a lot of attention during the 2023 NFL season. While it’s a hit-or-miss play for most teams, it’s been a guaranteed hit for the Philadelphia Eagles whenever they run it. But on Sunday, that changed.

The Eagles found themselves unexpectedly on the wrong end of a 17-10 score early in the third quarter of Sunday’s game. But Philadelphia drove down the field and faced a first-and-goal from the one-yard line. A touchdown seemed to be a formality. Stopping the Eagles on the Brotherly Shove even once is next to impossible. But there was no way that the Commanders would stop it three (or even four) times, right Not exactly.

Washington didn’t stop the Tush Push multiple times, but it also wasn’t necessary. On first down, there was an issue in the exchange between center Jason Kelce and quarterback Jalen Hurts. That resulted in a fumble, which Washington recovered.

Washington did little with the ball on its ensuing possession. That gave the Eagles great field possession, which they took full advantage of when Hurts found A.J. Brown for a game-tying touchdown.

Still, the Tush Push failing brought about a surprised reaction from the NFL world.
