When it rains, it pours. The Philadelphia Eagles have found that out over the last day or so after losing Super Bowl LVII in brutal fashion. The Eagles learned of concerning news on Monday afternoon: All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson will miss time this off-season due to surgery. Johnson needs a procedure done on his adductor, which he tore and played through during the postseason according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
“Eagles’ RT Lane Johnson, who played through a torn adductor this postseason, will undergo surgery on it later this week, per sources,” Schefter tweeted. He continued, “Johnson delayed the surgery so he could play, and now will have the time he needs to have it repaired and to recover.”
Johnson will miss time this off-season recovering but based on timelines, he should be fresh and ready to go for training camp. He’s played excellently for a decade now and stands as perhaps the best pick from the much-maligned 2013 NFL Draft.
Johnson and his injury also put things into perspective. He played extremely well this postseason for somebody who had a torn adductor. He didn’t go against scrubs either, as the Philadelphia lineman more than arguably clamped down Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa during the NFC Championship Game.
The NFL world reacted to the injury news after it broke. Many praised Johnson for his heroic efforts.
