Every NFL team must make cuts on August 29 to get the rosters down to 53. The Miami Dolphins are one of 32 teams that need to trim their roster from 90 players to 53 by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon. And while many players are expected to be released on Tuesday, one of them was not this veteran wide receiver.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins have elected to release Robbie Chosen (Anderson).

The 30-year-old Chosen, formerly known as Robby or Robbie Anderson, has changed teams as many times as he’s legally changed his name in the past calendar year. The Dolphins were the third team that Chosen had been on in the span of a year. The Temple Owls product signed with his hometown team this offseason after spending time with the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals in 2022.

Prior to last season, Chosen made a lot of headlines, from criticizing rumors that the Panthers were interested in Baker Mayfield to tweeting (then deleting) that he was considering retirement ahead of the team’s mandatory minicamp. He then followed Carolina’s actual trade for Mayfield by backing off on those criticisms and then offering praise for Mayfield. But it hasn’t been smooth sailing from there.

Since that empty praise for Mayfield, Chosen made headlines several more times. He later complained about how the team treated incumbent quarterback Sam Darnold. And the Panthers’ quarterback carousel (Darnold for much of the offseason, then Mayfield to start the season, then PJ Walker) didn’t help matters, and neither did the firing of head coach Matt Rhule (who coached Chosen in college at Temple).

This all reached a boiling point when he was kicked out of a game by then-interim head coach Steve Wilks, the Panthers traded Chosen to the Cardinals in exchange for two late draft selections. Between his time in Arizona and Carolina last season, Chosen hauled in 20 receptions for 282 receiving yards with one touchdown reception. During his short stint out west, Chosen had just two receptions for 10 yards in six games.

Perhaps this is the end of the road for Chosen, who has never been able to find his footing since leaving New York.
