While Aaron Rodgers seems to be on track for an early return from a torn Achilles, some doctors are warning him about pushing that timetable.
Rodgers has been seen recently without his crutches throwing the football and many New York Jets fans are excited about it, but should they be?
The New York Post interviewed four doctors and one said Rodgers needs to be careful. The doctor isn’t saying Rodgers can’t return much sooner than expected. He is saying, however, he needs to be cautious.
“I’m not aware of anything that would get an athlete back in 14 weeks to play professional sports,’’ Dr. John Kennedy, the professor of orthopedic surgery and chief of the foot and ankle division at NYU Langone, said. “That would be an exceptional recovery. Professional athletes are exceptional human beings who do things the rest of us can’t do, and maybe he will. And if he does then we’re all wrong and it’ll be fantastic for the Jets and for Aaron.
“But if it all goes horribly wrong, that would be the risk that most of us [doctors] would say he would take if he came back in that kind of accelerated time, 14 weeks. That’s a very, very short time.”
Rodgers wants to return before the end of the season, but the Jets haven’t been a disaster as some predicted since he’s been gone. They just handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season on Sunday.
As of now, there really is no need to rush his return, especially since the Jets are very much in the playoff hunt.
