The general expectation for professional athletes is that they give every game their best effort, even if the results aren’t great. But according to Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf, he didn’t do that this week during their game against the Los Angeles Rams.

During his press conference this week, DK Metcalf admitted that he didn’t give 100 percent effort on Sunday, saying that effort “just wasn’t there like it’s been in the past.”

“I really can’t speak for everybody else’s, but my part was just effort,” Metcalf said according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “And play after play, just 100% effort, it just wasn’t there like it’s been in the past. So, I know that’s one thing I’ve got to clean up. And just playing as a team. When something goes wrong or adversity hits, we just can’t start pointing fingers or just looking around for somebody else to make a play or just to have an answer. Can’t look for the coaches. . . . I can’t tell you. I think it’s just an inward experience, a lack of preparation on my part. Just got to do a better job preparing during the week and knowing my job.”

It’s rare to hear a professional athlete openly admit that they weren’t putting forth their best effort in a game. We’ll have to see if Metcalf is able to correct this going forward.
