It’s not often that you hear a professional athlete go into a press conference and openly admit that he did not put forth his best effort during a recent game, but that’s exactly what Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf did this week.

The Seattle Seahawks had a pretty lackluster season-opening game against the Los Angeles Rams as they fell by a final score of 30-13. And DK Metcalf offered a pretty surprising reason why, admitting that he did not give 100 percent effort throughout the game.

“I really can’t speak for everybody else’s, but my part was just effort,” Metcalf said according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. “And play after play, just 100% effort, it wasn’t just there like it’s been in the past. So, I know that’s one thing I’ve got to clean up. And just playing as a team. When something goes wrong or adversity hits, we just can’t start pointing fingers or just looking around for somebody else to make a play or just to have an answer. Can’t look for the coaches. . . . I can’t tell you. I think it’s just an inward experience, a lack of preparation on my part. Just got to do a better job preparing during the week and knowing my job.”

It’s a pretty shocking admission from the Seahawks star, and it led to plenty of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see whether or not Metcalf can improve his effort this week.
