Veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson signed with the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday after being waived by the Los Angeles Rams. On Sunday night, Jackson made his Raiders debut against the Kansas City Chiefs. And his first reception was quite the roller-coaster experience.
Jackson reeled in a deep pass from Derek Carr and had nothing but green turf — and the Raiders end zone — in front of him after a Chiefs defender fell down in coverage. But instead of running forward (with the end zone just 20 yards away), Jackson stopped and turned in the direction of Chiefs cornerback Rashad Fenton. Well, Fenton forced a fumble, which was recovered by Kansas City’s Tyrann Mathieu.
That’s a really bizarre play. Maybe Jackson truly forgot what direction he was facing? If he just runs forward, that’s likely a Raiders touchdown.
Instead, it was a huge turnover, and it’s continued going downhill for the Raiders since.
Carr had an awful turnover of his own with this arm punt:
The Chiefs fake punted on 4th-and-7 while up 13 points, and it worked.
And on 3rd-and-11, Patrick Mahomes threw a jump ball that Darrel Williams caught for a touchdown. It’s now 34-14 Chiefs with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
