It’s rare that notable NFL signings happen in August, but the Dallas Cowboys made a very intriguing addition on Wednesday.
The Cowboys signed veteran linebacker Anthony Barr to a one-year deal, as first reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic.
The team has made the signing official.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that it’s a one-year deal worth up to $3 million.
Barr, 30, was a four-time Pro Bowl selection for the Minnesota Vikings. It was actually a stretch of four *consecutive* Pro Bowl selections in 2015-18. Minnesota drafted Barr with the ninth overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft out of UCLA.
In 2021 with the Vikings, Barr had 72 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a career-high three interceptions over 11 games.
Even at 30, Barr still has the ability to be a productive three-down linebacker for the Cowboys. He’ll also help allow for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be even more creative with Micah Parsons, the 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
