The Cleveland Browns are trying to figure out what to do with quarterback Baker Mayfield but they haven’t made it easy on themselves. Now that they’ve already signed Deshaun Watson and many other NFL teams have sorted out their quarterback situation, there isn’t as much demand for the embattled signal-caller as there once was.
However, that doesn’t mean a trade isn’t coming down the road, especially since the Browns have lowered their price for him.
A lot of different NFL teams have been thrown out there as potential destinations for the disgruntled quarterback, but NBC’s Cris Collinsworth has a very specific team in mind when it comes to finding the right fit for Mayfield.
“I still think he ends up in Seattle,” Collinsworth said on this week’s The Cris Collinsworth Podcast. “It makes too much sense for him to land in Seattle, them draft a quarterback, sit behind Baker, give it a go. If Baker is good, great—we’ll be able to do it. But it’s so similar to the style of play that Russell Wilson has that you’re not going to have to change everything on the offensive side of the ball.
“You get Pete Carroll back in there now as the de-facto defensive coordinator on that side of the ball and I could see them winning 10 games with that bunch and making the playoffs. That’s not out of the question. I don’t see Carolina doing the same thing. I see Carolina drafting someone.”
With the NFL Draft coming soon, it seems like the Browns will find a way to trade Mayfield soon. And if they somehow can’t, they might just eat the contract and release him. Will Baker Mayfield end up in Seattle? Perhaps, though they’re likely to look to the future for a long-term answer in replacing Russell Wilson. That is unless they decide they want to roll the dice on Colin Kaepernick.
