The Washington Commanders have a lot to be excited about moving forward. In his first season in the league, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led Washington to the NFC Championship, where they fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Still, the Commanders know they’ll have to tweak the roster if they want to dethrone the Eagles next season. While that will inevitably include additions to the roster via the draft and free agency, it also means cutting players who are currently on the roster.
One such cut was made on Friday, according to one prominent league insider.
“More about the Commanders informing two-time Pro-Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen that he is being released,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fans reacted to the cut on social media.
“He’ll be picked up quick. There’s a lot of need for interior defensive lineman right now,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“The cap went up but yet teams are not keeping good players,” one fan added.
“But their fans said this guy was a demon? Now he gets released and they say hes washed?” one fan added.
“Sad to see him go. Love to see more money come in though. Where do you think he goes,” one Commanders fan wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see where Allen ends up.
