Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay had good news to share Tuesday night — Anthony Richardson’s shoulder surgery was a success.
The Colts rookie quarterback has not played since suffering a sprained AC joint in Week 5. Irsay offered an encouraging update on Tuesday’s surgery to repair the injury.
“#5 QB Anthony Richardson’s surgery today in LA was a success!” Irsay tweeted. “It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery – they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone for the support. (There is presently no date for his return.)
At the time his injury was diagnosed, the Colts said he would be sidelined indefinitely. The Colts and Richardson later determined season-ending surgery for the AC sprain would be in his best interest.
The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson showed flashes of brilliance this year, but he also took a beating. He suffered the shoulder injury on a designed run, and he also battled a knee injury and missed a game due to a concussion.
The NFL world quickly reacted to the promising update.
