The Indianapolis Colts have made some shocking coaching moves in the last couple of days. You can add their plan for who will call their plays this weekend to that list.
A day after the Colts fired head coach Frank Reich and replaced him with ESPN analyst Jeff Saturday, who has never coached in the college or NFL ranks, something the franchise has taken heat over, it’s being reported that Saturday is installing 30-year-old pass game specialist/assistant quarterbacks coach Parks Frazier as the offensive play-caller this weekend when the team takes on the Las Vegas Raiders.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was the first to report the news.
Frazier started coaching at Samford as a defensive quality control and then jumped to Middle Tennessee State before joining the coaching staff at Arkansas State as a graduate assistant. He was recommended to join the Colts staff in 2018, initially as the assistant to Reich, but he soon worked his way up to offensive quality control coach. Frazier is currently in his fifth season with the Colts and his first as pass game specialist/assistant quarterbacks coach.
Coincidentally, Frank Reich officiated Frazier’s wedding, making the last few days a bit awkward and bittersweet for sure.
We don’t know too much about Parks Frazier and why Saturday felt he was the best option to call plays this weekend, but the NFL world certainly had some strong reactions to the news. The wedding anecdote was something that a lot of people couldn’t help but take note of.
It says something about the state of the Raiders that in spite of all of this, they’re still not favored in this game.
