The Indianapolis Colts are holding a quarterback competition this offseason between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson. Heading into the Colts’ first preseason game against the Ravens on Thursday night, head coach Shane Steichen named Richardson the starter for the game.
It’s not hard to see why Steichen made the decision, as Richardson clearly approached the competition with the right attitude.
“I’ve just got to work as if I am going to be the Day One starter,” Richardson said. “Regardless of what decision they make, I’m still working, trying to improve. They’re going to make the best decision for this team, and that’s what we need.
“This team wants to win the Super Bowl. It’s not about me, it’s about the team. I’m just working as if I am the starter, and if I don’t get the job, you know, glory to God.”
Unfortunately, Richardson went down with an injury against the Ravens.
“Colts QB Anthony Richardson is out for the remainder of tonight’s game due to a finger injury,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“I think it’s time to try him at a different position. RB?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Softest player to ever put on an nfl uniform,” another fan added.
“The dude is a backup at best. The next Trey Lance,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if Richardson can get healthy in time to make another push at the starting job.
