Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders worked out quarterback Colin Kaepernick to see if they might want to add him to their preseason roster. Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon thinks the team has a very specific reason why they might be interested in the social activist looking to return to the NFL for the first time since 2016.
When asked by TMZ Sports, the Houston Oilers legend said that he thinks head coach Josh McDaniels might want to deploy Kapernick in a run-quarterback package not unlike what he’s used with Cam Newton and Tim Tebow.
“[McDaniels] knows how to work with that type of quarterback,” Moon said. “Maybe there’s a package of plays that he can put in that help the Raiders, maybe in game-time situations.” Moon also thinks that Kaepernick’s experience sets him apart from most of the other backups on their quarterback depth chart. “If you look at the backups they have right now, they don’t have a whole lot of experience as far as game time,” Moon said. “So, I think it makes a lot of sense to bring him in and take a look and see what he’s still got left.” “The NFL is a copycat league,” Moon said. “They tend to do what other teams do.” [TMZ Sports]
