The 2028 Summer Olympics in Paris, France will be historic, as it will be the first year where Flag Football will be an Olympic event. Many NFL players have already stated their interest in playing for the Team USA Flag Football team. And another big name in Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes can be added to that lengthy list.
Mahomes is obviously one of the most talented players in the world, coming off an MVP season last year along with helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs are on track to be amongst the biggest threats to repeat as Super Bowl champions this season. And Mahomes’ impressive play this season is certainly a big reason why.
Having arguably the best player in the world in Mahomes would certainly help Team USA in the 2028 Olympic Games. Mahomes recently made it clear that he would love to participate in the coming games.
“I definitely want to, but I’ve seen some of those guys play the flag football and they’re a little faster than I am,” said Mahomes via Pro Football Talk. “I know there’s not, like, linemen blocking for you. I’ll be 31, 32 years old, so if I can still move around then, I’m going to try to get out there and throw the football around maybe in LA. Just don’t tell Coach Reid or Veach or anybody.”
Mahomes does make a good point. The game of flag football sets up entirely differently than an NFL game, where speed is perhaps the most important and useful skill to have.
That being said, he is also obviously selling himself short. And having a passer as talented as he is would obviously be great for Team USA to have.
Fans took notice of Mahomes’ comments on the matter and are welcoming him with open arms to represent Team USA in the upcoming games.
We want this as well.

Flag football was just recently announced as an Olympic sport for 2028, so it still isn’t clear whether NFL players will even be eligible to participate.
However, if they are indeed allowed to play, it feels pretty safe to say that Team USA will have a huge advantage over the rest of the world.
