Four days after Justyn Ross was arrested on charges of domestic battery and misdemeanor property damage, the NFL has placed the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver on the Commissioner Exempt List.
While on the Commissioner Exempt List, the 23-year-old Ross won’t be permitted to participate in any football activities. Only NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is able to determine which players go on the list and for how long they will remain on it.
The circumstances surrounding Ross’ arrest remain unclear, according to Fox4KC. Earlier this week, his now-ex-girlfriend appeared in court asking the judge to not let Ross contact her again and seeking permission and access to retrieve her belongings from his residence, which the judge granted.
Ross pled not guilty to the charges. He reportedly posted a $2,500 bond and was released from jail on Tuesday. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 4.
A standout player at Clemson, Ross was once thought to be a potential first-round pick before a neck and spinal issue cost him the entire 2020 season. After returning to play for the Tigers in 2021, he went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft before signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent.
Prior to his rookie season, Ross underwent foot surgery, which resulted in him missing the 2022 campaign. Having appeared in seven games in 2023, he’s caught three passes for 34 yards as Kansas City has amassed a 6-1 record.
