The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best kickers in all of football in veteran kicker Harrison Butker, but if he ever goes down with an injury, the team may have found an emergency replacement in safety Justin Reid.
During practice on Sunday, Reid showed off an extremely different facet to his game by drilling a 65-yard field goal that certainly got the attention of everyone at the practice facility.
It’s good!

It looked like this kick would have been good from around 70 yards, which seems preposterous considering Reid is a position player.
Many around the NFL world have taken to social media to express just how crazy of a feat this kick was from Reid.

Is that Justin Reid or Justin Tucker?

In comparison, the longest kick recorded in NFL history was from longtime Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker last season when he hit a 66-yard field goal against the Detroit Lions.
Former NFL punter turned media personality Pat McAfee clearly took notice of this crazy feat from Reid, saying on his show that he reached out to him to express just how impressed he was.
“I was befuddled,” said McAfee. “That ball just kept going, he cleared that thing by a good 4-5 yards. I sent him a DM and said ‘Sir that is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen in my entire life from somebody that isn’t a full-time kicker or soccer player’.
McAfee also says that Reid shared the possibility of becoming a kicker once his career at safety is over.
“He said, ‘maybe some year when the athleticism wane’s down a little bit, maybe focus on kicking and steal an extra two or three years at the end of his career,’ I believe it.”

Having the type of accuracy consistently that it takes to be an NFL-level kicker is certainly very difficult, but Reid has at least shown that he certainly has the leg strength that it takes to be an NFL kicker.
This still seems like a bit of a stretch that he will be a kicker someday in the league, but this is still an insanely impressive kick that very few people in the league can do.
