On Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago Bears made a pretty surprising move at the quarterback position when the team released veteran backup quarterback Nathan Peterman, leading to plenty of speculation about what the team could be planning to do at the position. But as it turns out, the team didn’t make any moves at quarterback and is simply bringing Peterman back.
On Thursday morning, league insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported that the Chicago Bears were re-signing Nathan Peterman to their active roster just one day after releasing him.
“The #Bears have re-signed QB Nathan Peterman to the 53-man roster, per source,” Pelissero said in a tweet.
It’s not really clear why exactly the Bears chose to release him on Wednesday when they were just going to re-sign him to the active roster a day later, but the strange move at quarterback certainly led to a lot of reactions and speculation on Twitter as a result.

Peterman will once again serve as the team’s backup quarterback behind starter Justin Fields, just as he has all season previously. If the Bears were planning another move at the quarterback position that never came to fruition, we’ll probably never truly know.
